March 2006
After receiving the scholarship I continued my PhD in the Hebrew University working on the Theory of Gamma-Ray Bursts. I submitted my thesis on July 2004 and I received my PhD on March 2005. After finishing my PhD I got a long term position (6 years) in Caltech (California institute of technology) as a Sherman Fairchild senior research fellow. Currently I continue my work in Caltech on various topics in astrophysics and my plan is to apply in the near future (with in several years) to faculty positions in Israel.

"The Ideology Role of Editing in the Press: The Case Study of the Representation of Women in the Israeli Newspapers"
March 2006
Hagar Lahav
More than two years have passed since I received the Dan David Prize scholarship to young researchers, and I am now on the verge of finishing my Phd thesis, which at the time I was awarded the scholarship, was in an embryonic stage. It is due to be published within this coming year.
My thesis deals with the complicated and deep connections between gender and journalistic editing in the press, as well as with the importance that these connections have in the context of journalistic coverage of sexual violence in Israel. The study of these significant subjects is in its beginning, and I hope that my work will carry a substantive contribution to the field.
Moreover, I began to integrate in the academic world in these past two years. I teach in Bar Ilan University, in the Open University and in Sapir College in Israel; I gave lectures in international and national conferences; and two of my articles are expected to be published this year.
Inspired by Feminist Studies, I developed in the last few years a growing interest in Feminist Theology. In the future years I hope to develop a new approach to this subject, which seems to be of outmost importance, from a Jewish point of view. I hope that this approach, which I have started to introduce in international academic conferences, will serve as a contribution to the communication between women and the Divine, as well as to Jewish Studies.
I am forever in debt to the Dan David Prize for my academic, as well as my personal achievements. I see it as my responsibly to live up - as much as I can - to the expectations and trust you put in me.

Title of Research:
"Passion, Pride and Prejudice: Representations of Sexual Minorities in American and British Cinema and Television in the 1990s and Early 2000s"
CV, December 2005
I submitted my dissertation to Tel Aviv University's Senate (via the Shirely and Leslie Porter School of Cultural Studies) on August 2005. The Dan David Prize 2003 provided me the means to accomplish my research, and to publish more than fifteen academic articles and encylopedic entries in the past six years. I also presented about 40 academic papers at international and national conferences, colloquiums and symposiums in the past nine years. I am grateful for Mr. Dan David's kindness and generousity.
In the future, I hope to publish more academic papers (and books) in the fields of popular communications, film & television studies, and gender & sexuality studies, and to promote tolerance, pluralism, peace and social justice.

"Citizens' Argument Repertoire and Media Discourse"
January 12, 2006
I have further developed my dissertation research project, and it is now titled "Citizens' Argument Repertoire and Media Discourse." My dissertation proposal has been approved. I completed the data collection and the data analysis. Currently I am in the midst of the write-up and expect to complete it this year. My future plans are to pursue an academic career in a research university in the field of political communication.
In the summer of 2005 I was selected to participate in the National Communication Association's Doctoral Honors Seminar, hosted by the Department of Communication at the University of Oklahoma. The 3-day seminar included in-depth discussions of my research with top scholars from the field of political communication. Participating doctoral students were competitively selected. My research won the "Top Paper Award" in the Mass Communication Theory and Research division of this seminar.
In October 2005, I was selected to present my dissertation research in the annual open house of the department of Communication at the University of Washington, as a representative of the department's graduate students.
Two other research projects that have been recently accepted for publication:
