Jamaica Kincaid, Black Jewish Author, Scoops Israeli Cultural Prize

b_350_0_16777215_00_https___s3.amazonaws.com_assets.forward.com_images_cropped_youtube-1486494357.jpgJamaica Kincaid, the Jewish, Caribbean-born author of five semi-autobiographical novels,won a prestigious Israeli prize this week in recognition of her cultural impact and literary accomplishment.

Administered by Tel Aviv University, the Dan David Prize went to Kincaid because she’s “one of the most important and influential writers today,” the awards committee wrote. Previous recipients have included former Vice President Al Gore, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen.
