Each year the Dan David Prize, in conjunction with the Israel Ministry of Education and the Dov Lautman Unit for Science Oriented Youth at Tel Aviv University organizes the "Name Your Hero" Essay Competition for High School Youth throughout Israel. Students are encouraged to present their choice of candidate.
From over 1000 essays submitted this year, 100 high school students were selected to participate in a one-day writing workshop at Tel Aviv University. Those invited had the most interesting ideas about individuals they deem worthy of the Dan David Prize.
The essay winners will be announced in April 2019 and prizes will be awarded at a special ceremony in May 2019.
